Italian Heritage Exhibit

The Italian Heritage Exhibit is a two-part exhibit that features the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii Church Exhibit with statuary and art from Italian societies and churches, including St. Rita and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Churches

The second part of the exhibit includes the Italian Community Center’s Historic Photo Collection. The historic photo collection tells the story of the Italian immigrants who made Milwaukee’s Third Ward their home in the first half of the twentieth century. The gallery honors their courage to leave Italy and Sicily and their determination to build lives for themselves and their children in a new country. The photos exhibited span seventy years from 1885 to 1955 and include family portraits, weddings, life in the Third Ward, military, and many facets of the Italian immigrant experience in Milwaukee

Religion was at the center of their experience, and the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii Church served as a center for the immigrants’ religious and social lives. This year’s Festa Italiana opens on the Feast of the Visitation and includes special touches to pay tribute to the Blessed Mother as May is the month traditionally celebrated for Mary

The closing of Festa on Sunday coincides with the Feast of Corpus Christi, which honors the institution of the Holy Eucharist, and there will be an emphasis on religious art, artifacts, and symbols related to Holy Communion

Region exhibit

The Region Exhibit this year is A Photographic Journey Through Sicily

This will include historic places, ancient ruins, beautiful beaches and coastline.

There will be information on the history of the island, famous people, historic events and the food and wine of the region. There will also be an exhibit of items from the island

Opera Exhibit

Opera is a big part of the Italian Culture. Italy has been one of the most influential to the world regarding classical music. Italian Opera composers have written some of the most beautiful music appreciated by the whole world. Opera is not just about hitting the high notes, performing in an opera setting on stage is very demanding and difficult because not only you have to be able to sing but at the same time you have to act the part, and recite the words while moving.

The Opera exhibit will demonstrate and show you the contribution Italy gave to the world of Music with the following exhibits

Italian Composers pictures and their biography

Famous Opera houses in Italy and the world

Musical Instruments history and displays that were invented by Italians

Pictures and biographies of the world famous three tenors and other Italian famous Opera Singers

Manikins dressed in fashions of the Opera areas

Power Point presentations of the most popular areas, while you sit and relax and enjoy the music
